In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for infrastructure projects totaling ₹11,600 crore in Assam. Addressing the public in Guwahati ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Modi highlighted the significance of the projects, emphasizing their role in enhancing connectivity between Assam, the rest of the Northeast, and Southeast Asian countries. The ambitious list of projects includes new roads, widening of existing roads, construction of medical colleges, upgradation of stadiums, and the introduction of an access corridor at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.
Among the inaugurated projects, two four-lane National Highway projects were launched, with one connecting Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur (₹1,451 crore) and the other from Dolabari to Jamuguri (₹592 crore). Modi also laid the foundation stones for crucial initiatives such as the Divyalok Pariyojana, an access corridor to Kamakhya Temple (₹498 crore), and the improvement of amenities and infrastructure at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) along with a new medical college in Karimganj (₹3,828 crore).
